Water and Wastewater Utility Locator and Inspector

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Accurately identify and mark underground water and sewer utility lines to prevent damage during excavation or construction projects.
  • Inspect ongoing construction projects to ensure compliance with District standards, safety policies, and relevant regulations.
  • Operate electronic locating equipment to trace and mark utility lines for contractors, citizens, and other District departments.
  • Conduct on-site inspections, including potholing and bore crossings, to verify the accuracy of utility locations.
  • Utilize GIS systems to update records and locate utility lines not included in existing mapping systems.
  • Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure proper procedures are followed during utility work.
  • Provide documentation, reports, and project updates as needed.
  • Perform customer service requests and coordinate with internal departments.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid Colorado driver's license
  • 1-2 years of experience locating water and sewer utilities, with experience in water/wastewater utility inspections preferred
  • Experience using GIS/GPS mapping systems and electronic locating equipment
  • Familiarity with construction principles, techniques, and relevant codes for water and sewer lines
  • Ability to work in various outdoor conditions and navigate confined spaces.
  • Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within six months of employment
  • Ability to obtain Colorado Water Distribution Class 1 and Wastewater Collections Class 1 certifications within six months of employment. Class 2 certifications are preferred

    • a full calendar week (5-7 days) is compensated at 10 hours straight time pay/week.

  • Increase of 5% for each higher level of certification obtained.  An incentive of a .50 per hour raise is given for each additional license obtained.
  • Merit Increases of up to 5%.

Hiring Range

Rate of pay depends on knowledge, skills and abilities. Salary for this position ranges from $29.50 to $40.48 per hour (DOE).

Eligibility for a signing bonus

The successful candidate could be eligible for a hiring bonus of up to $5000. An initial $2500 payable upon the WWSD’s first regular payroll date following the start date and subject to all applicable tax reporting and withholding requirements. Once the successful candidate has completed the 90-day introductory period, they could be eligible for an additional $2500.

Successful candidates will complete pre-employment screening, which includes, but is not limited to a criminal background check, drug screen, and physical.
